Protecting the Women and Children of South Sudan: Unveiling the Darkness of Gender-based Violence”

In South Sudan, gender-based violence (GBV) looms as a silent yet devastating threat to the safety and well-being of women and children. Shockingly, 1 in 4 women have endured sexual violence in their youth, while 1 in 2 have faced intimate partner violence as adults. The true scale of this crisis remains obscured by underreporting, leaving countless victims without justice or solace.

Communities echo the chorus of concern, identifying sexual violence as the paramount danger facing women and girls. Disturbingly, the most prevalent form of GBV is Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), haunting the sanctity of homes and relationships. Our mission is clear: we must shine a light on this pervasive darkness and stand united against all forms of violence towards the most vulnerable among us.

In the heart of South Sudan, amidst the shadows of conflict and cultural norms, lies a beacon of hope—At I-WIN, we stand tall against gender-based violence (GBV), a scourge that plagues our society, stripping away the dignity and rights of countless individuals The revised paragraph with an emphasis on I-WIN’s response, particularly targeting women and young girls, while still acknowledging the broader community impact, is as follows:

The figures are GBV picture is distressing and represent only a fraction of an extensive crisis. In regions such as Eastern Equatoria, Western The Greater Bahr-el Ghazal, Upper Nile, and Jonglei, the incidents of GBV are more than mere statistics—they embody narratives of anguish, dread, and fortitude. I-WIN has risen to the challenge, dedicating its efforts primarily to empowering women and young girls, who are often the most affected. By the conclusion of 2021, I-WIN’s steadfast dedication had reached a remarkable total of 19,832 individuals, comprising not only women and girls but also boys and men, ensuring that no one is left behind in the quest for safety and dignity.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE

Empowerment in Action: I-WIN’s Commitment to Women’s Dignity and Rights!

At I-WIN, we believe in action that speaks louder than words. Our mission is clear: to be a beacon of hope and a pillar of support for women and girls, especially during times of crisis. We don’t just provide aid; we provide a future.

Rapid Response, Lasting Impact!

When disaster strikes—through floods, droughts, conflicts, or displacements within our areas of operations—we’re there. But our help isn’t just about the immediate relief; it’s about long-term empowerment.

In 2021, our Emergency Humanitarian Assistance project in Jonglei State was a testament to this commitment. Supporting 1,793 households affected by flooding, we did more than distribute supplies.

Decision-Making at the Forefront!

We put vulnerable women and those leading agricultural households at the heart of our efforts. They received fast-maturing vegetable and crop kits, fishing gear, and—most importantly—training in advanced agricultural and sustainable fishing techniques. This wasn’t just aid; it was an investment in their capabilities and future.

Empowerment Through Involvement!

Our approach is designed to do more than alleviate distress. It empowers women, respects their rights, and actively involves them in shaping the assistance they receive. This not only reinforces their autonomy but also ensures their safety in adversity.

Join us in this journey of empowerment. Because when we uplift women, we uplift humanity!!
